Mon. through Wednesday were rather grueling. I spent the brief moments of reprieve sleeping and watching a rather dark true crime series that I hope will be able to articulate in a songwriting or investigative journalist context one day. Anyways I also started Gregory Sadler’s series on Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit, which is okay. I haven’t watched a whole bunch of – but what I have watched I liked quiet a bit. I’m not a big fan of Gregory Sadler, mainly because during a livestream (that occurred a long, long time ago) I joined and asked Dr. Sadler his thoughts on who would win in a fight between Franz Kafka and Soren Aabye Kierkegaard and Dr. Sadler gave me a really annoying answer about how I should ask “why they were fighting in the first place,” and it really annoyed me because I was just trying to provide some levity towards a really pretentious philosophy livestream; This aside, I am going to try and bite my tongue and find some insight in Sadler’s series on Hegel and gain some enjoyment.
After work on Wednesday, I met up with Sam Yurick, Dave, and Dave’s girlfriend and we watched the new movie, “Digger.” Digger is a Kaufman-esque sort of a movie where there is a blurring between a genuine narrative and a structured/staged narrative that collides and I really enjoyed the movie. The monologue sequence is impactful, and I was genuinely engaged with the scene. Due to the movie being so recent, I’ll keep a lot of my thoughts to myself, but what I really enjoyed was how the narrative seems to be a satire of the biopic genre as a whole (that’s all I will say). I also enjoyed some great nachos that cost way too much. It was nice to see Sam and Dave, me and Dave covered some show details and then me and Sam ended up talking quite a bit and it was very nice to see him.
On Thursday, I worked until I didn’t. After work, I spent some time with Kyra before going to Silverdale Studios to fix the master/mixing for the new DT album. I was very excited to finish getting the album finished and I am glad I have a finished product. We all listened to the album together and it was very nice seeing Dave and Seth after a while. Here is a picture from my mixing notes:
After the mixing session, we all parted ways and I drove Kyra home and we had a nice heart-to-heart and we had a real nice hug. I really love her a lot. She’s so sweet and she means the absolute world to me. I drove home listening to the final mix and it was exactly what it needed to be. Once I made it home, I went to bed.
On Friday, nothing much happened. I also worked until I didn’t and once I got home, I did a little schoolwork and played some Minecraft then I went to bed.
Saturday was an eventful day. I started the day by doing more schoolwork (this semester has not been as bad as some math classes, but there is just a lot to do). At about noon-ish I got ready to see my buddy Sam play in his band, “Terminal Wait.” I ended up going to the skate park for the show and the rain had actually delayed the show quite a bit. I remember a lot of the tents for the art vendors blowing away, which I felt a little bad about for the vendors themselves. The show ended up starting about 1:20PM and I saw and acoustic act called “Coke and Redrum,” which reminded me a lot of Mal Blum alongside acts like Local News Legend which I enjoyed. Sam began playing at about 2 and his set was awesome. I won’t spoil it because I’ll have a more detailed description next blog entry. What I will say is that Sam’s set was very cool and was very emotive in the last song. I had to leave immediately after Sam’s set to pick Kyra up, but when I was telling Sam goodbye, he had the biggest smile on his face and he said, “thank you so much for coming.” I remember one time when I was a real little, making these cards for my class and giving them to my 2nd or 4th grade class for this guitar recital and I remember looking at the door to see if any of them would show – and none of them did. Now, to ruin this sad anecdote – I am 90% I didn’t give an address or any indication of where my guitar recital or how to contact my parents to find out so it’s pretty obvious no one showed up, but I was like 8 and I just remember it made me feel sad. But in that moment seeing Sam’s smile and happiness at me and another friend showing up, I felt like that moment had come full circle.
I picked Kyra up from work and me and her got ready for a show at The Empty Glass. I was very excited to go with her. I also got a chance to take a nap while Kyra got ready, which was very nice. Me and her left at 7 PM and we got Taco Bell before heading to Charleston. The show went well, Kyle was there and it was nice to see him. Kyle played a set that I enjoyed a lot. Me and Dave played second and our set went well, although I think I played a little long – but who cares. Dave’s girlfriend joined our band with Tambourine. The set went good and I really enjoyed the noisy violin I did on the rest section of “song for ur dog.” People sang along to some of the songs and I really enjoyed playing. From here, this band called Blooming Grace played and I liked them whilst eating salty Hot Wings. Dr. Scientist played last and they are such sweethearts and they are so talented, and they are all so nice. I think they (Dr. Scientist) should get more out there with shows as they have something really special. I would elaborate more but I am tired and hope my readers will look Dr. Scientist up because I enjoy there music quite a bit.
Me and Dave got 62 dollars all together and Dave gave me 42 since I’d sent Seth some money for the mixing/masters. I also sold a T-shirt which gave me a supply of cash in my wallet. Me and Kyra were both worn out and once me and her got home we put My Little Pony on to go to bed. I fell asleep pretty quickly.
Me and Kyra woke up at about 8 AM on Sunday and me and her watched a couple episodes of MLP, which I found charming and wholesome. At about 8:45 AM, I had to leave and left for church. I had a really great time with Kyra and all my friends. I am excited to see what this week holds in store. Goodbye.
