As mentioned in my previous blog post, Monday made one whole year since I quit vaping. My allergies were killing me on Monday, so I didn’t put too much thought into the milestone – I worked on my grandma’s birthday gift, which is a DIY music box. I ended up splitting it in two, because it was a lot of work. I have linked a picture of the music box and cello below:
On Tuesday, I still felt groggy and stuffed up. I took a test at the compliance center and then I went to work. At work, I watched Face in the Crowd with Andy Griffith, and it was a very good movie. I went to my grandma’s house after work and she liked my gifts. She cried tears of joy, which I thought was sweet. I went home and read a little and then went to bed.
On Wednesday, deaththreads had a show at Silverdale. It went well, there wasn’t a whole lot of people there, but we all had a fun time. Abbie from New Jade had a cool guitar, it’s like a Gibson Explorer. They released a song not too long ago which is good. It’s called “Oh! The Valley,” which is cool. After New Jade, a band called The Last Post played – it was just an acoustic set from their lead singer, Logan, and it was really good. They have a song called “1999” that I like because it reminds me of the creepypasta under the same name. Deaththreads’s played their set, and it was a lot of fun, all three of us were really in our element. It was a blast and I ended up breaking my wireless system when I smashed a gong on my doorspring guitar. I sold $30 dollars with deaththreads stickers, which I was happy about. I talked to Dave, Erik, and Seth and it was really nice to have all four of us in one spot. I left at around midnight and stayed up and texted people, networking for the band and what not. Jordan Shorter took some cool pictures of me, Caleb, and Dave and I’m excited to see them. Seth’s supposed to send over the new mix for our April set, which I’m excited to have out. I talked to my buddy Tyler, who I’d like to read poems during my solo sets at Jimmie’s Place. I went to bed at around 1 AM.
On Thursday, I saw K. Me and her relaxed and I rubbed her back and it was a very nice time. I hadn’t seen her since Sunday morning, and it was great to see her. She’s a lovely lady and I like her a lot. I stayed until about 8PM when I went home.
On Friday, I just worked until I didn’t. I listened to the Fall of the House of Usher, and that was a good story. I forgot to mention this, but on Wednesday, The Mountain Goats released a song entitled “Charlie Sheens Reaches Out to the Feds.” The song is a retelling of 1991 incident where Charlie Sheen contacted the FBI about the movie Guinea Pig 2: Flowers of Flesh and Blood, which is one of those fake snuff films that were popular in 1990s in the same vein of August Underground. Guinea Pig as a series is noted primarily for its’ innovative special effects. Dave as well as my friend Jimbo spoke to me about The Mountain Goats’s new song and the story, I mentioned different bits of the history of these movies – specifically Faces of Death and Traces of Death being a way to make money from unused graphic news/documentary footage. The unfortunate truth about disturbing movies such as Guinea Pig and August Underground is that their fake snuff pretending to be real would almost instantly be outshined by the unfortunate volume of real death footage that would become available with the advent of the internet. Anyways, I know a lot about this stuff from a handful of college papers I’ve done on morbid curiosity and how media companies have engaged with the phenomena. I’m guilty of having been morbidly curious, who hasn’t rubbernecked a minor fender-bender on the side of the road? I have also been a victim of the various shock sites that were all too common in the early 00’s and 10’s. One example of this sort is actually the inspiration to the band name, “deaththreads.” Being an introverted 12-year-old, I would often spend a majority of my summers on 4chan – specifically I would spend my days on /b/’s draw threads while listening to Sleepycast and various “disturbing PSA” compilations and whatever internet documentaries I could find in 2015. I didn’t get a lot of requests from the drawthreads because I was bad at drawing, so I mostly just spent my time lurking the different boards and I remember this slight horrifying feeling in the proximity of something seemingly fine such as Caturday threads or YLYL threads alongside the rather traumatizing rekt threads, which are pretty much death threads. That sort of feeling of the morbid or depressing being hidden or beside the normal or mundane is something I really want to touch on in my music, and that is why I chose the name deaththreads.
I thought about this while driving home from work. When I got home, I watched a little bit of a Christian Slater movie in which he does a really bad British accent. He had a poorly acted delirium fit in this movie, and it was rather funny watching my namesake do such a lame performance, he tried though. My mom has always been a fan of the movie Heathers that stars Christian Slater and she liked the name. I went to bed after the delirium scene as I thought it was bad.
On Saturday Morning, I watched Dancer in the Dark, which is a good movie. I drank some coffee and I read a little and I took a very good nap at around noon. I woke up at about 2PM and I went to K’s house, and we had a nice day out. We ate at the Grandview Diner, which is a very good diner. K’s allergies started to mess with her, and we came back to her house and went to bed. It was nice and I miss her while writing this.
This morning I left K’s house and went home and practiced guitar and then went to church. Church was fine. I’m rather tired, so I’m going to type this up and read a little bit. Goodbye.
